With Me All Along

Though you were created in a rebellious act by love struck teenagers, I knew you in the womb. I brought you into this world and kept you safe.

The old man you used to talk to through the fence, back in Chicago, the one who was kind and gentle and told you it was good to pick the dandelions, the one who gave you lollipops because he knew it would be your only treat, that was Me. I wanted you to feel safe and have...

I know the plans I have for you...

Cindy took a quick look in the mirror before leaving the house, good enough she thought. She saw the promises of God tucked away inside the body of the woman looking back at her. She barely noticed if her hair was brushed or if her eye makeup was smudged. The passion to get on with life overpowered any desire to look the part of a widow.

He gives and gives and gives more.

There he is, quietly behind the scenes, working and serving to please others in the best way he knows how. He is masterful when it comes to his craft, layering unique details that often go undetected unless he tells or you ask. Keeping a keen eye on who likes what, he makes mental notes for future reference. You see, he really enjoys preparing these things for people, he knows how to make them happy. His heart goes into all that he does, though he will never a...

What He Sees

Posted by Lori on December 22, 2013 at 3:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Though the tree in front of him stands near seven feet tall and four feet wide, covered limb to limb with ornaments and colored lights, he sees something different.  As he reclines on the couch, gazing at the tree, memories storm his mind.  Memories of Christmas when he was a boy, about 1943. He vividly recalls the shiny ornaments placed deep inside the tree where the natural gap between branches lies.  These ornaments reflected the lights in the room as did the ...

Inside out

If only I were inside out!

Then everyone would see ME.

The me I really am seems to get stuck and jumbled in the delivery.

The words come out wrong,

the tone is always off,

The Flavor of Salt

Writing Prompt: Describe the flavor of salt.

Salt tastes like the sweat on your face after a hard workout, discovered only when wetting your lips with your tongue.

It also tastes like the ocean all dried up. It cannot be compared to a fragrance yet it draws out and delivers the flavors of the food is embraces. When it comes in contact with your tongue it delivers such a...

Don't Speak

Posted by Lori on September 24, 2013 at 4:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Desperate to be released, thoughts enclosed in the depth of my mind stir. Complexities swirling, emotions charging, pressure so great the words burst out of my mouth unable to be controlled. Upon hearing the raw version of this composition leave my body, I try to craft it into some other form before it settles upon the ears of the recipient. Internal loathing and sheer embarrassment overcomes me as I scramble to make sense of what I just said. Why did I say that? If I wou...

Who is it?

Posted by Lori on September 17, 2013 at 10:10 PM Comments comments (0)

From the beginning you were there.

You never took your eyes off of me.

You help me when I am hurt,

hug me when I am lonely,

hold me down when I get too lofty.

You promise to be with me for eternity

and give me love that is unending.

Nothing compares to you.

You are my everything and I adore you.

Slide your hand across the surface and tell me how it feels.

Walk barefoot on the floor and tell me how it feels.

Touch anything and tell me how it feels.

The counter feels slick as wet ice, the floor like smooth glass, the plant feels soft and delicate and the fabric feels like silk.
