With Me All Along

Though you were created in a rebellious act by love struck teenagers, I knew you in the womb. I brought you into this world and kept you safe.

The old man you used to talk to through the fence, back in Chicago, the one who was kind and gentle and told you it was good to pick the dandelions, the one who gave you lollipops because he knew it would be your only treat, that was Me. I wanted you to feel safe and have...

Branches scraped her legs as Kelly peddled her bike through the woods after detouring off the road. There had been a red Jeep following her for a few miles, driving slow en...

Cindy took a quick look in the mirror before leaving the house, good enough she thought. She saw the promises of God tucked away inside the body of the woman looking back at her. She barely noticed if her hair was brushed or if her eye makeup was smudged. The passion to get on with life overpowered any desire to look the part of a widow.

Wearing...

What He Sees

Posted by Lori on December 22, 2013 at 3:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Though the tree in front of him stands near seven feet tall and four feet wide, covered limb to limb with ornaments and colored lights, he sees something different.  As he reclines on the couch, gazing at the tree, memories storm his mind.  Memories of Christmas when he was a boy, about 1943. He vividly recalls the shiny ornaments placed deep inside the tree where the natural gap between branches lies.  These ornaments reflected the lights in the room as did the ...

Opening one side of the double door, Margret was relieved to find the smiles of a young girl waiting to be greeted. "Hello? Can I help you?" said the old woman now standing with the sun in her face holding the door slightly open. S...

Writing Prompt: What do you see when you look out your window?

Visiting my friend in Banaue, Philippines, I am amazed to see the green steps going up the sides of the mountains all around here. From a distance it looks like I can run up and down these lush mountains on soft green landings without getting hurt. There is a little village embedded in the lower part of the closest mountain that is a cluster of white ho...

Twisted Fun

In rapid fluidity, the pen swirled across the yellow paper until it reached the edge and like a vintage typewriter it returned and began another row.  Touching both top and bottom lines, the letters looped continuously over the space as I penned every word.

"You remind me of the scene in the movie The Shining  where Jack writes over and over the same thing page after page."

"What wa...

I looked for inspiration, sought out a good writing prompt, listened to music and still nothing is waving at me screaming "write me, write about me."   So here goes from somewhere inside me I have yet to discover.

Terror (WP)

Writing Prompt: Write about the terror that has no name.

When you know the enemy are all around you but you cannot see them, it can be quite unnerving to take even one breath. To step into the darkness completely unsure of what your foot might land on or how far the drop might take you causes you to panic and tremble inside. Afraid to breath but unable to stop the racing of your heart, your chest pumps the air right out of your open mo...

The Stranger in Front of You (WP)

Writing Prompt: Write about the stranger in front of you.

Standing downwind from this mysterious figure I craft in my mind his image; a strong jaw line, deep blue eyes sheltered by lush brows, chapped lips and sunburned cheekbones. The earthen musk wafting in the evening breeze mixed with the burning smell of smoke draws me towards the crackling glow where the silhouette of a man stands before me. Barely able to catch my breath...
